A Bitcoin wallet is essentially a file containing a list of cryptographic keys that are used to generate addresses, each of which has a certain balance of bitcoins tied to it and which confirm cryptocurrency transactions. A Bitcoin wallet may contain a special encrypted file (wallet.dat), for which only the user has the password. Keys can be saved on flash drives or simply written down on paper. There are various services available that provide online wallets for storing bitcoins.
